FIRST UP ON THE BLOG IS DEHRADUN- The capital of Uttrakhand and home to numerous attractions. Here is my guide to this beautiful city located at the foothills of the Himalayas:
PLACES YOU CANNOT MISS:
- Forest Research Institute- Built in the British times FRI is a deemed university with beautiful architecture and a few museums too. You will find photographers, students and museum enthusiasts all in one place.
2. Robbers cave(gucchu paani)- A hidden cave with a small waterfall. You have to walk through water which is till your ankle through a small gap between two rocks to finally see a small waterfall. The only time you can experience true serendipity is when it is less crowded and I highly recommend to carry flip flops or you can rent/but them outside.
Timings- 7am to 6pm
Time to explore-2 to 3 hours
Entry fee as applicable
3.Sahastradara- It is a sulfur water spring of remarkable medicinal value. One of the best ways to relax and get away from the bustling city. The best time to visit is in the evenings when there is no crowd.
Timings- 8 am to 7 pm
Time to explore- 1 hour
no entry fee
Also a lesser known place is the sahastradara ropeway which costs you 150 rupees which takes you to a well maintained place with a spectacular view. You must see the sunset from here and enjoy the hills with a plate of maggi.
4.Mindrolling Monastery- It is one of the six major monasteries of the Nyingma school in Tibet. It is fabulously built and clean. The temple is only open on sundays but you can see the stupas any day.
Timings-9 am to 7pm
